Athanasios Charalampopoulos

I was born in Athens, Greece, in 1975. I began studying Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music at the age of 18 at the School of the Metropolis of Piraeus, Greece, under the guidance of Mr. Grigorios Kakouris. I successfully completed my studies, receiving my Certificate in Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music in 1999 and my Diploma in Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music in 2004.
Following my studies, I served as both second and first chanter in several churches in Athens. In 2011, I moved to the United Kingdom, where I continued my service as a second chanter at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Wood Green, North London.
In 2014, I moved to Sheffield and have since served as first chanter in the Orthodox churches in Sheffield and Mansfield. In addition to my liturgical service, I have been teaching Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music for the past ten years, offering lessons primarily online and helping students develop their knowledge, understanding, and practical skills in Byzantine chant and its ecclesiastical tradition.
Alongside my work in Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music, I am a Consultant Cardiologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield.
