Ioannis Georgopoulos

Ioannis Georgopoulos was born and grew up in Kavala, Greece. He is a teacher of Byzantine Music and has been involved in Byzantine Music since the age of eight. He began his studies under Pavlos Charis, a prominent teacher and chanter currently based in Athens. By the age of seventeen, he had obtained both the Certificate and Diploma in Byzantine Music.

Ioannis served as Lampadarios at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen in Piraeus and subsequently served for four years as Right Hand Chanter at the Church of the Three Hierarchs under the Archdiocese of Athens. He has also participated as a principal chanter in official liturgical and choral events at the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity in Piraeus, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, and the Holy Metropolis of Peristeri. He currently serves as Right Hand Chanter (Protopsaltis) at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Shepherds Bush, West London.

Alongside his involvement in Byzantine Music, Ioannis holds a PhD in Criminal Procedural Law and Litigation from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School in London. He also graduated as Valedictorian from the Military Law School in Greece and served as a Military Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Defence in Greece. He currently works as a Legal Professional at the Financial Conduct Authority and resides in London with his wife and daughter.
